SMA Statement on House Passage of HB 19

Southwest Movers Association (SMA) today released the following statement regarding the passage on third reading of House Bill 19 by the Texas House of Representatives:
 
“The Texas House of Representatives took a significant step today in bringing legislative justice to thousands of business owners across the state with the passage of House Bill 19. This bill is not only good for commercial vehicle operators, but for all Texans. When abusive lawsuits cause the price of insurance to skyrocket, those increased costs are passed onto the consumer through the costs of goods and services. We thank Speaker Dade Phelan and Chairman Jeff Leach (R-Plano) for shepherding this bill through the House of Representatives and also thank Leo Pacheco (D-San Antonio), Rep. Eddie Lucio III (D-Brownsville) and Rep. Ina Minjarez (D-San Antonio) for their roles in bringing bipartisanship to this bill. There’s no greater testament to the necessity of a bill than to bringing two sides together for the common good. We look forward to working with the Texas Senate as this bill continues to move through the legislative process.”
