1957 was a great year for the Hart family. That year, Margaret (Peg) and Joe Hart welcomed John Joseph Hart in to the family. He was born in Cleveland, Ohio, the fifth of six Hart children (brothers: Mike and Tim; sisters: Denny, JoAnne and Judy).
At the age of three, John and the family moved to Lubbock, Texas, and there they stayed. John attended Christ the King Catholic School from first grade through twelfth grade. He was an avid athlete and played football, baseball and basketball growing up. In high school, he lettered in basketball every year. John graduated salutatorian in 1975 and attended Texas Tech University.
In 1992, he married Kathy Grooms and the family continued to grow. They have two children, son Jonathan and daughter Danielle and are the proud grandparents to their granddaughter Zaijah.
John’s entrance into the moving business really began when his father, Joe Hart, started Hart Moving and Storage in 1965 in Lubbock. John worked summers and part-time at the company throughout high school and in 1982, he began working full time at Hart.
In 1989, John took over running the company. Since that date, the company has grown from two bobtail trucks, four employees and revenue of $275,000 to 17 power units, 48 employees and revenue of more than $3 million.
Since 1975, the company has been an agent for Wheaton Van Lines. John has served on the Wheaton Agents Advisory Council twice and has been honored as Wheaton Agent of the Month. He has also been awarded the prestigious “Q” or Wheaton quality award 17 of the 20 years it has been in existence.
John’s affiliation with the association began in 1993 with an invitation by Wayne Bruce. Since that time, he has been an active member, serving on the executive committee, as a Foundation trustee and vice-chairman, and chairman of the association in 2009. He also serves on numerous committees and is chairman of the education committee. John was also active in Texas Trucking Association, serving as the Lubbock Chapter chairman from 2001–2003.
John is active in his community and serves as a board member and finance chairman at Catholic Charities Diocese of Lubbock where wife Kathy is employed. He is a member of the Lubbock Chamber of Commerce and serves on the transportation committee. He also is an active member of the Red Raider Club and Sales Executive Association of Lubbock.
John is an avid golfer and loves to hunt and travel. He is a regular at any Red Raider event, especially at Texas Tech football games.
